The Bayou on the Bend apartment complex, which was torn down a couple of years ago, is being rebuilt by a developer that plans to open the 242-unit complex this summer.
The property is at 5201 Memorial Drive along the banks of Buffalo Bayou and just west of Shepherd Drive.

Commerce Equities, a realty firm led by Houston developer Matthew Dilick, is developing the six-story project, which it said is the last privately held piece of land close to downtown on the south side of Memorial, meaning no new structures will be built to impede the views to the east.
The units, which will reach 100 feet above Buffalo Bayou, will feature Jacuzzi tubs, granite kitchen countertops, 10-foot ceilings, ceramic and wood floors and balconies with panoramic views.
The amenities at Bayou on the Bend include a clubhouse and exercise room with steam rooms, an infinity terrace pool with hot tubs and private canoe slips providing access to the bayou.
The complex will have private canoe slips with waterway access. In addition, some residents will be able to design their units like they would a new home.
Those signing long-term leases of at least 13 months will get to chose their paint color, carpet and ceiling fans.
The original Bayou on the Bend apartments were built in 1959 across from the tony River Oaks neighborhood.
After flooding several times, including during Tropical Storm Allison, it had sat mostly empty for a couple of years before it was demolished.
Rents will range from $1,077 for a one-bedroom unit to more than $3,300 for a three-bedroom townhome unit.
